New social media platform for Irish businesses to consider
Although introduced back in June and rolled out officially to individuals in September, Google+ has not been open to businesses until early November.
Now that it is available, it’s a must for businesses for many reasons. The video element (called Hangouts) of Google+ has the potential to be used as a customer service tool or even a demonstration and presentation tool for some businesses.
The link value alone – a link from a Google domain – will add something to the strength of your website, which should help you search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign and rankings. Your plus.google.com account is also likely to rank well for your brand name in search results, ensuring greater brand visibility in SERPs.
At present Google+ is just another social media platform and nowhere near as popular as Facebook in Ireland and not likely to be any time soon. It’s another way to increase the visibility of your business.
Early adopters of Google+ are likely to build strong profiles before others join, which maybe a head-start worth having. At present it’s not possible to run your RSS feed through Google+ as it is with Facebook but when that does happen – probably early in 2012, it’s likely to build into a very popular platform internationally. If you are involved in exportingin any shape or form, it’s worth looking at setting up a Google+ account for your business and encouraging interaction amongst your customer base.
